The Kindness Project: In Honor of Gabriel Micah Sierra

In honor of our son Gabriel Micah Sierra’s 2nd birthday, I would like for our community to come together again in order to spread kindness. What exactly do I mean? The Kindness Project was created by the MISS Foundation, which is a volunteer based organization that provides support for families after the death of a child from any cause. The Kindness Project is when someone performs a random act of kindness in their community in honor of a child who has passed away. When you perform your random act of kindness, you will attach a Kindness Card. It will read, “This Random Act of Kindness Done in Loving Memory of Gabriel Micah Sierra”. Not sure how to go about performing your random act of kindness? Here are a few ideas:
  • Bake cookies for a neighbor or teacher. Make sure to drop them off with the Kindness Card.
  • Drop off cupcakes at a children’s doctor’s office with your Kindness Card
  • Leave a bouquet at another child’s grave at a cemetery. Leave your Kindness Card with the bouquet.
  • Donate to The Rally Foundation (rallyfoundation.org) or Brain Tumor Foundation for Children (braintumorkids.org) in honor of Gabriel Micah Sierra
  • Leave an extra large tip for your food server (along with your Kindness Card)
  • Buy the meal for the person behind you at the fast food drive thru. Leave your Kindness Card with the employee taking your order to give to the person you paid for.
  • Bake goodies to take to your local police station, fire department, or hospital along with the Kindness Card.
  • Crochet a baby’s blanket, booties, or caps and take it to a children’s hospital for the NICU. Leave your Kindness Card with the nurse or family.
  • Leave a bouquet of flowers on someone’s door step, with the Kindness Card.
  • Buy a balloon bouquet and ask the nurses at the children’s hospital to deliver them to a child. Leave your Kindness Card with the nurse or ask the nurse to give it to the family.
  • Leave your change in the vending machine for the next person
  • Buy coffee for the person standing behind your in line. Give them your kindness card.
  • Volunteer at a local shelter, soup kitchen, or MUST Ministries. Your kindness card will tell them the story of why you are doing this.
  • Volunteer to read to children at a local library or church. Leave your Kindness Card with the librarian or church member.
  • Send your child a note in his/her lunchbox reminding them how special they are to you.
  • Drop off toys, clothing, or diapers at a crisis nursery, or local church drive. Leave your Kindness Card with one of the organizers of the drive.
  • Drop a tip in the tip charge at a local store or drive thru along with the Kindness Card
  • Places like Wal-Mart or McDonalds have opportunities for donating to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta or Ronald McDonald House Charities.
  • Drop your loose change in the donation boxes.
The possibilities for kindness are endless. You are not limited to the list of above. You can think up many other acts of kindness to do in honor of Gabriel. Kindness is just one of many gifts Gabriel left behind for all of us to share with one another.

My prayers are with Gabriel. When you are in the valley, look up to the mountains because God can move them! Do not lose faith. Hebrews 11:1
